February is National Heart Month, which recognizes the fight against cardiovascular disease. To bring the spotlight to the matter, American Heart Association employee Gabbi Roszman shared information on the importance of heart disease and how people can prevent heart disease.
According to Roszman, heart disease can impact anyone, regardless of their age or gender, though many young adults do not realize they are at risk. She said though many college students overlook being screened by a primary care physician, it is crucial to do so to detect cardiovascular disease.
As for ways to protect the heart, Roszman said that a balanced diet and exercise are key. The American Heart Association is also marking National Heart Month by holding a “Wear Red Day” on Friday, Feb. 6, to encourage businesses and individuals to wear the color red in support of heart health.
