All Kent campuses will remain closed until noon Tuesday due to an extreme cold warning hitting most of northeast Ohio.
Online classes will continue as usual and in-person classes before noon will not meet, but instructors have the option to teach online. Essential personnel are required to report as scheduled.
The cold warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, with dangerously low wind chills potentially reaching -27 degrees Fahrenheit.
The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors when possible but exercising caution if outdoors, specifically being aware of frostbite and hypothermia. In addition, an extended period of frigid temperatures could also cause ruptured water pipes.
To prepare, the National Weather Service suggests dressing in layers, keeping pets indoors, allowing faucets to drip to prevent freezing pipes and frequently checking on older family, friends or neighbors.
