TV2 Sports: Kyrie vs. Lebron
The TV2 Sports Team looked at their crystal ball and shared their opinion if Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will win a NBA Championship before Miami Heat forward Lebron James retires.
Ty Sugick (Thursday Web Sports Anchor)
Only if Kyrie leaves Cleveland or LeBron returns to Cleveland. Other than that no chance it’s Cleveland they barely have a supporting cast around kyrie to win 20 games a year a championship would take a miracle.
Cris Ross (TV2 Sports Reporter)
Two ways Kyrie wins a NBA championship before LeBron retires
The first way Kyrie Irving can win is if the Cavs management continues on putting good role players around Irving’s skills. You can always have a superstar, I think Cleveland learned from there mistakes during the Lebron era though and will provide the talent needed to win and keep Irving. As long as they keep developing the way they are and Irving stays healthy the team can look to be a playoff threat next year and a championship threat in 2-3 years.
Second way is if Lebron and Kyrie unite in the next few years in Cleveland. That may be a possibility in the near future.
Zach Harley (Monday Flashcast Sports Anchor)
That gives Kyrie a 10 year span (approximately). And if he stays in Cleveland, Gilbert will do anything to get a ring to the Q.
I heard MJ is planning a return… Dan’s waiting. Yes.
Jacob Corcoran (Sports Corner Anchor)
Irving is certainly one of the best point guards in the league. However, point guards don’t win championships. Any great point guard in the history of the game had someone to feed the ball too. It’s silly to think that it won’t happen, so it is a matter of when and with what team. Clevelanders hope its with the Cav’s, but they don’t have the best track record with retaining all-stars.
Jon Jankowski (Sports Director)
In the NBA today a team needs two or three superstars to win a NBA championship or have a very deep bench that can light up the scoreboard. Until the Cavaliers find a way to bring another all star to play with Kyrie they are not winning a NBA title. Lebron James is also not going to return to Cleveland. But I could see Irving leaving Cleveland and winning a championship with a different team.
Andy Jardy (Friday Sports Anchor)
Probably not, unless Lebron comes back to Cleveland. If the Cavs don’t give Kyrie a few more scoring threats, then he won’t come close to winning a championship. Talented player that needs more talent around him.
Christian Petrila(Monday Web Sports Anchor)
This will sound like a cliche answer, but it entirely depends on the development of the other young guys in the Cavs lineup. Should they develop well, a tandem of Irving, Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson (among other role players) could be very legitimate contenders. If not, the Cavs will struggle to hit the .500 mark. But to give an actual answer to the question, living my entire life in Cleveland as a Cavs fan, I know better than to say a championship is coming, so no.
Michelle Warner (TV2 Sports Reporter)
No, he will not because Cleveland is still devastated after Lebron left. He won’t win one playing for Cleveland, that’s for sure. There are just so many other talented teams in the NBA. Also, Kyrie is the only person on the team who is any good. He needs to be surrounded by better players.
Rich Pierce (Sports Corner Anchor)
If LeBron returns to Cleveland, maybe. Otherwise? I don’t think so. There just isn’t enough talent around him.
Gabriel Kramer (Wednesday Sports Anchor)
Young Kyrie Irving has plenty of time to get a ring before LeBron James calls it quits, and he will. James, at 28 years of age, has plenty of time before he has to hang up the jersey. And, being the physical specimen he is, he will probably be able to play for longer than the average NBA player. I would guess James wouldn’t retire until he is at least 40 years old, which gives 12 years for Irving to win and NBA title and possibly turn around the Cavaliers franchise.
Mike Drake (Friday Flashcast Sports)
Sure, I think its very likely that Kyrie will win a championship before Lebron retires. However, I do not think it will happen with the Cleveland Cavaliers unless they start making some quality trades or even if Lebron decides to return to Cleveland. Think logically here, the Cavs need another two to three years to rebuild just to be a contender for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. By that time, Lebron will have probably joined another team. I am not saying its not possible, but lets say that Lebron is in the league for another 10 years. By those odds, I would say Kyrie has a pretty good shot of winning at least one ring. I am a Cleveland fan through and through but sometimes I wonder if there really is a curse.
Justin Rockhold (Sports Reporter)
Yes, yes he will. And here’s why: The Cavs have assets! They have stockpiled massive amounts of draft picks, a lot of young talent, and a super star in Kyrie. You know who had the formula right now as we speak? The Oklahoma City Thunder; sadly for them they must face LeBron in his prime. The Cavs will catch LBJ on the downside of his career right as this bunch of talent is hitting their stride, making the Cavs one of the favorites in the league for at least a 3 year period as LeBron finishes his career as a Laker.
Krandall Brantley (Tuesday Web Sports Anchor)
Kyrie Irving will win a championship before LeBron retires. Kyrie has the ability to become the best PG in the league in the next 2-3 years, and you have to believe with LeBron’s tides to the Buckeye state that he wants to finsh his career in Cleveland.
Hunter Austin(Wednesday Web Sports Anchor)
I have to say that Kyrie Irving will win a championship before LeBron retires. He’s too good of a point guard to not win a championship, whether it’s in Cleveland or he goes somewhere else. LeBron probably has at least 10 years left in the league, which is plenty of time for a team to put winning pieces around Kyrie, who arguably has the most potential out of any player in the league.
Alison Reilly(Sports Reporter)
Well, if Lebron returns to the Cavs then that’s a definite yes. An experienced Lebron and a young talent like Kyrie are just what a team would need to lead them to a championship. If Lebron doesn’t decide to come back and re-build his reputation here, then Kyrie will probably end up somewhere else and manage to win a championship there before Lebron finally retires. This is the story of Cleveland fans. Go Cavs!
Matt Jarchow (Sports Reporter)
Yes, however he will not win a championship with Cleveland. After some frustrating seasons with the Cavs Kyrie will pull a Lebron and take his talents to Los Angeles to team up with Dwight Howard. Then, in 2019 the Lakers will beat Lebron James and the Heat in the NBA finals.
Kyle Vertoch(Wednesday Flashcast Anchor)
Kyrie Irving will not win an NBA championship before LeBron James retires. LeBron has been playing basketball like an immortal God this season. He’s having quite frankly, his most efficient and overall best season as a professional, breaking all kinds of records. I would imagine King James, as he ages, will slow down a bit, relying on his jump shot. Kyrie will continue to improve his superstar status, but how will the Cavs ownership be able to put a championship-caliber team around him? They couldn’t do that task when LeBron was here. Should they bring “the Chosen One” back to Cleveland? Is Shabazz Muhammad from UCLA worth the hype as the next Kobe Bryant? Only time will tell. As of right now, James will continue his title reign, while Irving can only dream.
