Red Bull to host Schlittentag at Brandywine
“Daredevils willing to propel themselves down a snow-covered hill and over a jump on a sled they built themselves” is how Red Bull describes its Schlittentag event at Brandywine Feb. 10.
“Red Bull Schlittentag is all about being creative, creating some type of sledding contraption and for once we are taking it down a ski resort hill,” said Brent Vererka, events and media director at Boston Mills/Brandywine Ski Resort.
“It allows college students to pull out their creativity,” he said. “They can get their couch out of their dorm or picnic table off their lawn and turn it into a sled.”
Teams of three will have two hours to build a sled out of objects they bring to the resort. They will then ride the sleds over a moderate-size jump created by the ski resort specifically for the event. The winner, chosen by the Red Bull team, will win cases of Red Bull.
Yuengling will also be raffling off a Yuengling snowboard and other prizes including beanies, stickers and snow passes. You do not have to participate in the Schlittentag to enter the raffle.
“This is going to be a really cool event,” said Kate Collins, Kent State Ski & Snowboard Team vice president. “I’m really excited for it and I hope a lot of Kent State students can go.”
Registration for the Schlittentag is at 7:30 p.m. and the sled building starts at 8. At 10 p.m. teams will begin to take their sleds over the jump, located at the bottom of regulator.
Brandywine will also be offering discounted snow passes for $20 to any student with a valid school ID. The hill will be open until 2 a.m. for Midnight Madness.
“The big key to the event is just creating a good college atmosphere, a good party atmosphere, and fun for that college age,” Vererka said.
Vererka said even students who have not skied or snowboarded before would enjoy the event.
“It’s a great time to get into the sport with the discounts that we offer,” he said. “It’s a great thing to get out, get active and enjoy the winter.”
