Tri-Towers Street Fair recruits students to join different student organizations

Students and organizations filled the Tri-Towers Rotunda on Friday for a street fair from 1 to 5 p.m. with tables manned by representatives from student organizations.

The event was a way for the organizations around campus to self-promote and recruit people for next semester.

“I have been trying to get different student organizations to participate and host tables for the last month,” said Dylan Grimm, the Tri-Towers Street Fair student organization coordinator. “We have about 30 tables registered for the event.”

Despite the rainy weather conditions, tables lined the sidewalks outside of Tri-Towers along with an inflatable and loud music by DJ Brent Osten, freshman sports administration major.

Each of the tables had outdoor-themed games, board games and contests to offer students. Others had treats for students to eat.

“I definitely saw some tables sponsored by organizations I didn’t even know existed, so I’m sure it created increased awareness for many of them,” said Heather Willard, sophomore public relations major. “It was a cool idea.”

Beads were provided as prizes for students who were winners in any of the games at the tables.

The Art Club held a chalk art competition for students to participate in. Mallory Kiley, junior art education major, called their club a “small close-knit group” and said that they were participating in the event to increase awareness of Art Club.

While the Art Club was creating awareness of their club, the KSU Planeteers table was at the street fair for a different reason.

“We want to create awareness of our mock oil spill event that will take place at noon on April 22 in Risman Plaza,” said Mary Kate Rothman, sophomore zoology major and member of the KSU Planeteers Club. She also said their game was an oil-spill-themed Jeopardy board.
