In April, communities across Kent and Ravenna are coming together for a cause that goes beyond friendly competition, as the Hunger Challenge pushes both cities to collect as much food and donations as possible for local families in need. While the challenge brings out community togetherness, it also highlights the ongoing issue of food insecurity throughout the area.
The month-long effort, supported by the organizations Kent Social Services and Center of Hope, encourages residents to donate nonperishable food items and essential supplies. Donation sites have been set up across both communities, making it easier for people to contribute before the challenge wraps up at the end of April.
As the final days approach, the need becomes more urgent. Both organizations continue to see high demand from families who rely on these resources, especially as pantry shelves begin to thin. The challenge not only aims to restock supplies but also to raise awareness about how many people in Portage County face food insecurity on a daily basis.
With time running out, community members are being encouraged to donate what they can, reminding residents that even small contributions can make a significant difference for families in need.
