The Kent State lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to Ohio State this week. This sets their season record at 7-8 and conference record 2-3.
“I think it’s confidence,” coach Brianne Tierney said. “Today, we had a yellow card within three seconds of starting the game, so that was a little bit of an uncomfortable spot for us. We haven’t really done that in a long time. It’s just being confident, carrying the ball one-on-one and winning your matchup. Obviously, with a great team like Ohio State, there’s a bit of bravado associated with it and at the end of the day, they’re just another college kid playing lacrosse.”
Scoring Summary
The Buckeyes’ offense played strongly the whole game, with an 8-3 lead at halftime. Scoring for the Flashes was junior attacker Morgan Halli, junior midfielder Eva Anderson in quarter one and senior attacker Emily Bond in quarter two.
OSU didn’t stop at halftime as it scored six more in the third quarter compared to KSU’s zero, which gave the Buckeyes a 14-3 lead going into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the Flashes netted three more goals from senior midfielder Zayda Crumpton, junior attacker Haleigh Greenberg and senior midfielder Peyton Gellin who closed the scoring at six.
Defensive Rundown
Like most games, KSU’s defense stayed busy all game as junior goalkeeper Sydney Davis recorded an impressive 13 saves and three ground balls. Halli, junior defenseman Davanee McNairy and sophomore defenseman Anna Zucconi each contributed one caused turnover, respectively.
“Defensively, played pretty solid, had some big stops in the cage,” Tierney said. “Sydney Davis did a great job as always, and then we actually threw a freshman in the second half, Bella White, on the draw, and she made some good things happen in there.”
Key Stats
Crumpton is still leading the Flashes with 32 goals. Just below her sits Halli with 27.
To no one’s surprise, Crumpton is still leading the team in assists (15), points (47), shots (117), shots on goal (72) and draw controls (43). Second in assists is senior attacker Lizzie Lundeen with nine. Second in points is Halli with 35.
The multi-Mid-American Conference weekly award-winning defenseman Zucconi leads the team in ground balls with 41, and senior midfielder Meghan Haddow is behind her with 32.
Davis is leading goalkeeping with 150 saves and a save percentage of .508.
