The Kent State lacrosse team played Florida State University for the first time in program history on Tuesday and lost 14-5.
The Seminoles dominated in every category, even scoring five goals in a row within the first six minutes of Tuesday’s contest. Senior midfielder Zayda Crumpton scored the only two KSU goals in the first quarter, and senior attacker Lizzie Lundeen scored the Flashes’ final goal of the first half.
“Florida State is a heck of a team,” coach Brianne Tierney said. “They play really fast, and their kids are just really good. Just enjoyed the opportunity to play an ACC school.”

KSU went into halftime trailing 8-3 and was only able to score two more goals before the end of the game. Senior attacker Emily Bond scored her second goal of the year in the third, and junior attacker Morgan Halli closed out the scoring with 41 seconds left in the game.
The game concluded with a final score of 14-5, Seminoles.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Davis recorded a season-high 16 saves, which ranks in the top 10 in KSU history.
Key Stats
As is the case after each game’s final result, Crumpton is still leading the Flashes with 28 goals. Just below her is Halli with 22.
To no one’s surprise, Crumpton is still leading the team in assists (13), points (41), shots (106), shots on goal (65) and draw controls (34). Crumpton’s season has been amazing to watch for KSU fans, and she will most likely be recognized with Mid-American Conference honors at season’s end.
Second in assists is Lundeen with seven. Halli and Lundeen are tied for second in points with 28 each.
Sophomore defenseman Anna Zucconi, out of Maryland, leads the team in ground balls with 38, and senior midfielder Meghan Haddow is behind her with 30.
Zucconi just broke a five-year-long record for caused turnovers in a single season with 26. Zucconir has excelled week after week for the Flashes, and she has been named MAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
“She’s so good at timing her checks, and intercepting, and reading her attackers,” Tierney said. “It’s not surprising that now she’s leading in caused turnovers. She’s going to have a great career for us over the next couple of years.”
Davis is leading goalkeeping with 133 saves and a save percentage of .520.
What’s Next
KSU will play the Detroit Mercy Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Detroit for another conference game. The Titans are last in the MAC, and the Flashes’ all-time record against them is 5-3.
“We just need to figure out a way to score,” Tierney said. “Still keep pounding away, and figure something out for Sunday.”
