April is National Poetry Month in the United States, and the Kent State community has an easy way to honor it by visiting its very own Wick Poetry Center. The center is a space that offers workshops, guest programs, and an extensive selection of books.
According to Wick Poetry Center Assistant Director Charlie Malone, the location on South Lincoln Street has served as a space for students to tap into their inner creativity since 1984 when Bob and Walter Wick endowed the center in memory of their late sons. Malone says the programs they offer at the center help people find their creative spark.
“We’re all interacting and sharing and responding to the art form in different ways, and it’s so rich,” said Malone.
The outreach of the Wick Poetry Center extends beyond the building itself, with a “traveling stanzas” bus for mobile poetry workshops, a special selection of books in the Kent State Library called the Wick Poetry Corner and an outdoor poetry garden.
