Junior guard Cian Medley has followed in the footsteps of multiple Kent State men’s basketball teammates by announcing his intent to enter the transfer portal through his agent and play elsewhere next season on Wednesday.
The loss of Medley will undoubtedly be a big one to overcome, as he has not only been a starter for two seasons, but also the Flashes’ leader on and off the court.
“He has had an awesome season,” coach Rob Senderoff said. “Set the single-season assist record in school history and has been a tremendous leader.”
Medley set both the single-game and single-season assist records in KSU history last season.
The first of the two occurred on Nov. 29, when Medley recorded 16 assists against Penn State-Shenango.
Finishing the season with 212 assists, Medley broke the single-season assist record against the Akron Zips with two games remaining in the season.
Averaging over 33 minutes per game, the guard scored 10.5 points and 6.4 assists per game on the season.
With the loss of graduate guard Morgan Safford, graduate forward Rob Whaley Jr., and now Medley, the Flashes will already be without three starters from last season. Between transfers and players aging out, KSU will field a very different team next season.
