Kenni Burns will no longer coach the Kent State Golden Flashes.
Kent State Athletics announced the termination of the football coach’s contract Friday.
The decision came after Burns was put on administrative leave on March 27. Since then, offensive coordinator Mark Carney has served as interim head coach.
Carney will continue to fill the role throughout the 2025 season. After the season a national search for a head coach will begin.
Kent State’s Director of Athletics, Randale Richmond, released a statement following the decision.
“At this time, our focus will be to support our student-athletes and provide them with the best opportunity to have a positive and competitive experience,”he stated.

There is more to his termination than his horrible record. When is the university going to share the rest of the story?
