Miller wins MAC honor following three interception game

Redshirt junior cornerback Montre Miller was named the Mid-American Conference East Divison’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week after his dominating performance in the Kent State football team’s victory over the Virginia Military Institute.

Miller became the first Flash since 2008 to have three interceptions in one game on Saturday. He helped KSU’s defense hold VMI to only 10 points, as each one of his picks came as the Keydets were driving into Flashes’ territory.

Miller also helped lock down VMI’s receivers, limiting their passing game to 146 yards. Last season, the Keydets averaged 309.6 passing yards per game.

KSU currently leads the FBS in interceptions this season with eight. Fifth-year cornerback Elvis Hines is tied with Miller for most interceptions on the team with three. He snagged one against VMI after having two the previous week against Texas A&M.

Graduate student safety Nico Bolden and senior linebacker Khalib Johns round out the Flashes’ interceptions with one each.

KSU plays at Iowa (2-0) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
