In commemoration of the 50 year anniversary of the May 4, 1970 shootings, the Kent State Museum will be opening a new exhibition called Culture/Counterculture.

The exhibition will take a look at fashion worn in the 1960s and early 1970s and pay homage to Kent State fashion museum founders Jerry Silverman and Shannon Rogers.

On May 4, 1970, four students were killed and nine were wounded by Ohio National Guardsmen while protesting the Vietnam War on Kent State campus.

“The show points out this tension between the culture, the establishment and the sort of counterculture anti-establishment forces,” Sara Hume, curator of the Kent State Museum said. “It follows that through the 1960s, and into the 70’s.”

The exhibition will feature an Ohio National Guardsmen uniform from the 70’s and garments worn by singers Jimi Hendrix and Diana Ross.

The exhibit will open Sept. 20.
