Kent State women’s field hockey beat Central Michigan University 3-2 Friday on the road to remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference play.

“It’s really important for us to keep rolling especially after playing Miami,” coach Kyle Desandes-Moyer said. “We have to continue to take care of business in each of those MAC games.”

The Flashes’ offense got off to a solid start with junior forward Hailie Balachick scoring the game’s first goal in the second period. 

“I think we struggled offensively and that credit goes to Central Michigan’s defense,” Desandes-Moyer said.

Kent’s two other goals came in the third and fourth periods and were scored by sophomore forward Sydney Carr and freshman forward Claudia Ortiz.

The Flashes’ offense produced just three goals on 25 total shots and had 13 penalty corner opportunities on the afternoon.

“Honestly, offensively I wouldn’t say we were successful because we took a ton of shots and we should have put a lot more in the back of the net,” Desandes-Moyer said.

Kent did not allow a single shot in the first period and only allowed five in the entire game. 

“One of our goals was to really be attentive to details and be strong and limit them,” Desandes-Moyer said. “While holding them to five shots was great, I think we are a little disappointed that we let them score on those two goals.”

Central Michigan’s two goals were both scored by redshirt junior forward/midfielder Samantha Glapinski in the second and fourth periods.

Flashes junior goalie Azure Fernsler had three saves on five shots faced in the contest. 

“On Sunday I think we need to just come out and play our game for 60 minutes which is something that we struggled with today and playing consistently throughout the whole game,” Desandes-Moyer said.

Kent will look to improve its winning streak on the road Sunday at 12 p.m. against Northwestern University (11-5).
