The Kent State women’s lacrosse team has had one of its best seasons in program history after tying the program record in wins last Wednesday against Eastern Michigan. 

The Flashes are in their fifth year as a program and hold a 6-6 record with a Mid-American Conference record-best of 3-0 on the year. 

“It’s exciting, we have never been 3-0 before,” coach Brianna Tierney said. “It’s interesting to see how we can handle a little bit of success and how we can build on that.”

Last week, Kent State earned one of its biggest wins in program history, beating Robert Morris 13-10 on the road. The Flashes were 0-6 all time against Robert Morris until last week. 

“We haven’t taken that win lightly, they know they had to work really hard for that win,” Tierney said. “Understanding that we aren’t just gonna be able to show up and get a win.”

The win against Robert Morris and the upcoming rematch on Saturday has a little extra meaning for Kent State. Tierney played college lacrosse at Colgate University for current Robert Morris head coach, Katrina Silva.

On top of it, the Flashes are looking to set the program record for most wins in a season. 

“I know Katrina is going to make some adjustments to their offense for sure,” Tierney said. “It should be a good kind of chess match.” 

Robert Morris (5-7) will be attempting to tie Kent State in the conference for first place. 

“We beat them last week so there is a little more on the line this time because we want to beat them even more,” junior attack Jackie Wolford said. “It’s pretty cool we got the win against her old head coach and we want to do it again.”

The game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dix Stadium. 

“This is the season we were getting to and now we have two and a half weeks left,” Tierney said. “Playing every minute like it’s the last and earning more time and building on the wins.”
