After scoring seven goals in the first period, Kent State’s women’s lacrosse team was outscored 8-2 in the loss against Presbyterian College.

Kent State (3-5) lost its second-straight game 11-10 on Thursday.

“Our goal in the first quarter was to push our fast break opportunities,” coach Brianne Tierney said. “They started stopping the fast break and we had no response to that.”

Junior attack Jackie Wolford scored four goals in the first quarter for Kent State. Freshman midfielder Zayda Crumpton, senior attack Kenzie Sklar and sophomore midfielder Sidney Dering also scored to take the lead 7-4 after one.

“Jackie had a great day, she couldn’t be stopped in the first quarter,” Tierney said. “We just need better support with her … giving her room to drive a little bit more.”

In the second quarter, Presbyterian controlled the tempo and scored two goals during the first eight minutes.

Sklar netted another goal but the Blue Hose scored with nine seconds remaining, making the score 8-7 with the Flashes up at halftime.

She is the second-leading goal scorer in the Mid-American Conference with 26 goals on the season thus far.

The first 10 minutes of the third quarter were scoreless until Presbyterian tied the game at eight with four minutes remaining.

Crumpton scored again for the Flashes but the Blue Hose knotted the score quickly after with five seconds remaining. Presbyterian scored to take a 10-9 lead after three quarters.

Wolford scored a fifth goal in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 10 with 12 minutes remaining. Eight minutes later, Presbyterian regained the lead, scoring a goal with four minutes remaining.

“In the end, what matters is our conference play,” Tierney said. “All of this is learning opportunities, win or learn.”

Jackie Wolford paced the Flashes with five goals and senior attack Morgan Kubicki added three assists.

Wolford is third in the MAC in goals with 22 on the season.

Kent State will take on Lindenwood at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dix Stadium.
