The Kent State Women’s basketball team’s season ended at the hands of the University of Toledo 68-58 Friday morning in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference tournament.
Toledo won all three games this season against Kent State.
The No. 1 seed outscored the Flashes three out of four quarters. Three players for the Rockets finished with double-digit points with senior guard Jayda Jansen and senior guard Sophia Wiard leading the team with 16 points each.
Senior guard Katie Shumate had yet another double-double, leading the team with 21 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and a steal. Graduate student forward Lindsey Thall added 15 points with three rebounds, an assist and a block.
The difference maker was second chance opportunities as KSU allowed 12 second chance points compared to the Rockets allowing five. Six of them came in the third and fourth quarter for the Rockets.
KSU shot just 35% from the field and 35% from deep putting. Toledo shot 46.2% from the field and 40% from three.
Toledo will move on to the MAC championship game, playing the winner of Bowling Green and Ball State.
