Women’s lacrosse ends road trip with loss to UC Davis

The Kent State women’s lacrosse team finished up its road trip in San Diego with an 18-8 loss to the University of California, Davis.

UC Davis jumped out in front early scoring six-straight goals to open up the first quarter. Kent State senior goalie Madison Flannigan tallied six saves in the quarter.

In the second quarter the Flashes responded with three goals to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Senior Kenzie Sklar, sophomore Allie Lee and freshman Peyton Gellin each scored a goal. The Aggies were able to add one more with six seconds left to increase their lead to 7-3 at halftime.

The Aggies scored in the first minute of the third quarter. Freshman Zayda Crumpton responded with one of her own for the Flashes shortly after to make the score 8-4.

UC Davis continued to pour on goals, scoring five to end the quarter with a score of 13-4.

Kent State was able to score four goals in the fourth quarter with Sklar completing the hat trick.

UC Davis took 38 shots and had only 9 turnovers while Kent State took 22 shots and had 14 turnovers.

The Flashes will return to Kent for the home opener and a five-game home stand.

The first game of the home-stretch will be against Delaware State at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Dix Stadium.
