Lil Yachty to headline FlashFest 2023
Rapper Lil Yachty will headline FlashFest 2023, the Undergraduate Student Government announced Tuesday night at halftime at the men’s basketball game.
Special guests Kash Doll and DJ Smillz will join Lil Yachty. The event will take place April 6 at 6 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center and is open to Kent State students only. General admission tickets are $20.
Due to security breaches with Kent State’s third party ticketing partner, AudienceView, USG said ticket sales have been postponed until a later date.
“Stay tuned for an announcement on when tickets will be up for sale,” USG said in an Instagram post Tuesday night.
Lil Yachty, a Georgia native, is a rapper, singer and composer who is known for songs like “Broccoli,” “iSpy” and “Marmalade.” According to Spotify, he reaches over 12 million listeners monthly.
Students in attendance at the game were excited to hear the news about this year’s special guest.
“I’ve always loved ‘Broccoli’ and ‘iSpy,’” said sophomore biology major Niko Magda. “They were big summer hits for me, so I’m pretty excited.”
Magda, who serves as Director for Student Advancement with USG, said he’s been listening to Lil Yachty’s newest album, ‘Let’s Start Here,’ which released January 27. He said that only adds to the excitement.
“He’s an electric artist,” said Abby Knapp, a sophomore long-term care administration major. “I think students are going to have a really good time.”
Sophomore construction management major Corey Buckner agreed with Knapp and said he’s excited for FlashFest.
“I think it’s really cool,” Buckner said. “He’s just a really fun artist, I enjoy him.”
