Track and field wraps up indoor regular season
The Kent State track and field team finished its indoor regular season at the AI Campbell Invitational in Akron.
Freshman Amare Hall took home first place in the men’s long jump (7.25 m). Hall is placed top-100 nationally in the long jump.
“He obviously did a really good job this past weekend,” coach Nathan Fanger said. “He’s won both of the meets at Akron that we’ve had but I think he’s getting his feet wet into the NCAA competition.”
Freshman Karsyn Spears won the women’s mile run with a time of 5:05:67.
“The women’s distance group is tough on their own for the most part,” Fanger said. “They’re a younger group that’s trying to mature together and I think some of the girls as Karsyn has kind of taken the lead and I think it shows obviously in the win this weekend.”
Sophomore Rakyia Addo took home second place in the women’s 60 meter race with a personal-best time of 7.80.
Dontae Deas also finished second in the men’s 60 meter hurdles, with a personal-best time of 8.47.
Fanger said that this week was more of a “just stay healthy” week.
“This week’s preparation was just maintenance for the conference championships,” Fanger said.
In preparation for the Mid-American Conference championship Fanger said the team was keeping the volume very low and the intensity high.
“Right now, it’s live gameplay,” Fanger said. “We got to get in their heads at practices so when they step on the field for the conference championship, they have a better flow.”
The team will be heading to Bowling Green to try and take the conference crown at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
