Bottom third but still on top: Women’s golf leaves fall season nationally ranked despite low finale finish
The Kent State No. 20 women’s golf team ended its fall season with an 8th-place finish in the Hurricane Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
KSU tied with Illinois and Nebraska. Twelve teams competed in the tournament.
The Flashes finished with a 6-over 870. No. 14 Southern Methodist won the tournament finishing with a 16-under 848.
No. 45 University of Miami ended second with a 12-under 852. South Florida, UNLV and BYU rounded out the top five.
BYU’s Allysha Mae Mateo won the tournament with a 7-under 209.
Senior Noramol Nuchsila, who finished 18th with a 2-under par 214, led the Flashes. The ten golfers ahead of her all tied for eighth place.
Freshman Blanca Yague-Cuadros was second-best for KSU, tying with four women for 24th with a 1-over 217. This was the best finish of her collegiate career.
Junior Hester Sicking was next, tying for 37th place with a 4-over 220. She transferred from South Dakota State this season.
The Flashes have over three months off before their next tournament in Orlando Feb. 5.
