Kent State University played Davenport University Saturday afternoon and was able to keep the score closer than Friday night’s game.  

Ian Herrmann was able to score a goal in the second period to make the final score 9-2 Davenport.  

Sophomore forward Herrmann has six goals and four assists this season for a total of ten points. He has three power play goals this season and made an impressive deke against Davenport to score Kent State’s first goal in the second period. Herrmann’s goal was followed by junior forward Rubin Chavarria with 14 seconds left in the third period. 

Kent State had a better time defensively on Saturday and was able to limit the shot chances that Davenport had. Davenport had 13 shots on goal in the first period while Kent State managed to get five shots on goal. After the second period, there were 28 shots on goal by Davenport and only 10 shots by the Flashes. Kent State’s defense was able to keep up with Davenport’s offense more and was able to control the game more than it could during its Friday night loss, 11-1.

The fourth point scored by Davenport was in the second period when Kent State forward Rob Ferrari deflected the puck into his own net. Senior Ferrari has four goals and seven assists this season to give him a total of 11 points.  

Davenport took an early lead over Kent State by scoring three goals in the first period, but Kent State’s defense was able to limit the scoring opportunities in the second period, only allowing Davenport to let in two goals. The Flashes slowed down during the third period to allow in five more goals to give Davenport an seven-point lead.  

Kent State spent the majority of the game in their defensive zone trying to limit the shot opportunities of Davenport. The Flashes were able to control the puck and play in their offensive zone as well, but getting fewer shots on goal than the previous game against Davenport.  

Kent State was able to control the game in the first two periods, but seemed to lose its speed in the third period, where the team let in five goals.  

Kent State’s Division 1 hockey plays Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
