Kent State is the only public university in Ohio to receive a 2022 “Great College to Work For” designation, according to an email sent by the university Monday.

This is the 11th time the university has received the honor, and it is one of only three universities in the state of Ohio to do so. The other Ohio institutions recognized include Cuyahoga Community College and Mount St. Joseph University. In total, 68 higher education institutions were given the recognition.

The survey is conducted annually by the Great Colleges Program, a program that has collected survey results from more than 1,000 colleges and universities since it was established in 2008. In 2022, the program received surveys from about 49,000 staff members across 212 colleges and universities.

The university currently has more than 5,000 part-time and full-time employees across all eight of its campuses, the email said.

Kent State also won honors in five other categories this year: Compensation and Benefits, Confidence in Senior Leadership, Shared Governance, Faculty Experience and Diversity and Inclusion and Belonging.

“Being named a ‘Great College to Work For’ is a tremendous honor, and to achieve this recognition 11 times is impressive,” Kent State President Todd Diacon said in the email. “I’d like to thank our faculty and staff for the contributions they make each day and for rating Kent State so highly as a great place to work.”
