An unknown male caller threatened to bring an AK-47 rifle to Walls Elementary School in Kent Friday. The person called the school around 2 p.m. and administrators “took appropriate safety measures,” then contacted Kent Police, who responded to the scene.

According to a press release from the Kent Police Department, safety precautions were also taken by at least two other schools in the district, with assistance from the Kent State Police, who helped provide “for the safety of all students, faculty, and staff at these three school buildings while they completed dismissal.” 

Officials at Theodore Roosevelt High School sent out text messages to parents around 2:35 p.m., announcing the school had gone into lockdown. The school also sent a message alerting parents when the lockdown ended, stating, “no direct threat was made to TRHS, all students and staff are safe.” 

Students were then released and able to leave the building. Scheduled afternoon practices, club meetings and events were canceled.
