KeyBank Foundation awards $200,000 for Kent State’s first-generation, low income students
KeyBank Foundation donated $200,000 to Kent State’s Key Connections program, which serves “underserved students” such as first-generation and those with a limited income.
“We are committed to helping local students and families thrive by providing financial assistance to help them reach their goals,” said Eric Dellapina, market president and commercial sales leader for KeyBank in East Ohio, in the press release. “This investment will help ensure a bright future for many Kent State students and build strong communities in our region for years to come.”
Over the next four years, this donation will help fund professional development, including internships, conference participation and research support, according to the press release.
An example of this funding includes the Summer Advantage Bootcamp experience this summer, which is a weeklong program where new students are introduced to campus resources, staff and services so incoming freshmen are prepared for future careers. Activities include academic support, service learning, professional development and personal development workshops, according to the press release.
“I am honored that KeyBank Foundation is committed to partnering with Kent State through University College once again to remove financial, personal and academic barriers for our students,” said Eboni Pringle, Ph.D., dean of University College at Kent State, in the press release. “Our initial partnership led to substantial gains in student persistence and graduation, and we look forward to continuing this trajectory with its newest investment.”
