Award-winning poets speak tonight

nd poets will come together tonight at the Kiva to share their words with Kent State.

At 7:30 p.m., Lee Peterson, who won the 2003 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize for her collection, Rooms and Fields: Dramatic Monologues from the War in Bosnia, and Jean Valentine, who won the 2004 National Book Award, will have a poetry reading and question and answer session.

On the University Press Web site, Valentine said Peterson’s poems were full of surprises, and the book “doesn’t have a single wasted breath.”

Peterson, who has been at Kent State conducting a poetry workshop since yesterday, said it is an honor to have the opportunity to read with Valentine.

There will be a brown bag lunch and discussion with Peterson and Valentine 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Women’s Resource Center.

The events are sponsored by the Wick Poetry Center, the Women’s Resource Center and the Ohio Humanities Council.
