Rodgers sets school record in pole vault in California meet

Junior Jackie Rodgers’ winning pole vault mark of 13-3.50 at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays meet highlighted the track team’s weekend of competition.

The men’s and women’s track teams competed in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The teams were split between the two meets.

Rodgers’ mark qualified her for the NCAA meet as well as bettering her previous personal best vault of 12-9.50. Sophomore Stephanie Hunt and senior Erin Corrigan placed a respective seventh and eighth place in the 400 meters. Senior Molly Hammer placed fifth in the 5,000 meters.

At the Sea Ray Relays, senior Breann Smith netted a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a 49-5.25.

Junior Phil Rickaby won the long jump with a personal-best 23-9 leap at the Mt. SAC Relays while senior Ofer Barniv placed 20th in the 1,500 meters. MAC Athlete of the Week freshman Jaroslaw Zakrzewski placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Sea Ray Relays.

Bourgeois, Delaney lead golf teams

Marc Bourgeois jumped so far, you’d think he was on a trampoline.

Bourgeois began the final round of the Aggie Invitational tied for 48th place but skyrocketed to 26th place with a 1-under par 71. Oklahoma State won the team title at 870. The men’s golf team earned an eighth-place finish with 899 at the invitational.

Freshman Tara Delaney led the Kent State women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Tournament. Delaney’s third-place finish was the best of her career. She shot a 3-over par 221 for the weekend.

Becky Wood tied for 13th with a 227, and Gabby Wedding tied for 16th with a 229.

The Flashes had the best finish among Mid-American Conference teams at the tournament. Michigan State won the tournament.
