The show went on!

Despite numerous technical difficulties, 17 fraternities and sororities performed last night at the Greek talent show.

The talent show, which drew over 600 people to the Student Center Ballroom, was the second event of this week’s Greek Week activities.

Alpha Epsilon Phi and Delta Gamma took top honors for the fraternities and sororities, respectively.

Delta Zeta member Jenn Trsinar braved the stage alone as she sang “Beautiful Disaster,” a hit by former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.

Trsinar said she was extremely nervous before she performed, but seeing her sorority sisters in the audience helped calm her nerves.

“Once I got up there and saw my sisters cheering and holding up signs for me, I relaxed a little,” Trsinar said. “I think the talent show is a great part of Greek Week; you really get to see some hidden talents.”

Greek Week Chairwoman, Mindy Baldy, a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, said she felt the evening was a success.

“Other than a few technical difficulties, I feel the evening went very well,” Baldy said. “There’s was a lot of variety within the acts.”

A high-energy drum solo from Delta Chi member Pat Wentz set the tone for the evening, which was filled with comedians, magicians, dance routines and musical performances.

Sigma Phi Epsilon, who was scheduled to perform fourth, fell victim to the first of many technical malfunctions. The group had to leave the stage and find another CD with their music. The setback didn’t affect the judges, as the fraternity’s spoofs of Aladdin and The Lion King won second place for fraternities.

An Alpha Epsilon Phi member won first place with his magic act involving a banana and a bandana.

Delta Gamma won its division with a hip-hop dance routine when seven women dressed in black outfits with red sequined belts performed a choreographed routine to a Destiny’s Child song.
