Wrestling team takes third at Body Bar Invitational
The Kent State wrestling team took third place at the Body Bar Invitational on Saturday at Cornell.
The Flashes posted 92 points for the day.
Cornell topped the 11 teams with 138 points, followed by Oregon State with 95.5 points.
“It was a very long day with a lot of wrestling,” Kent State coach Jim Andrassy said in a press release. “We wrestled hard throughout the day but we need to keep improving.”
Nine members of the Flashes’ squad placed; seven of those placed for the second week in a row.
Senior Alex Camargo finished in second place for the 184-pound class, going 3-1 for the night. Camargo is now tied for the No. 5 spot for the Kent State record of career wins with 98.
Junior Aaron Miller went 5-1 and placed in the No. 3 spot at 174-pounds. Miller now has a 9-1 record for the season.
“We finished ahead of a nationally ranked team (Pittsburgh), ahead of Army who beat us last week and brought a smaller group than most teams did,” Andrassy said. “Once this entire lineup gets healthy, we’re going to be competing for team championships at these tournaments.”
Another group of Kent State wrestlers spent the weekend at the Ashland open. Sophomores Danny Mitcheff and Clayton Stark placed in the No. 2 spots in 125-pounds and 133-pounds.
The Flashes will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Mercyhurst Duals in Erie, Pa.
