The Kent State soccer team won its first road game yesterday since its 3-0 win at Youngstown State on Sept. 16.

The win will take the Flashes to the Mid-American Conference semi-finals for the first time since 1998.

Thanks to a 3-1 shoot-out upset against the No. 2 seed Ball State yesterday, the No. 7 seed Flashes head to Bowling Green to face Central Michigan at 11 a.m. on Friday.  

Just like its regular-season finale 0-0 tie against Buffalo, the Flashes and the Cardinals remained scoreless throughout the game and two overtimes.

Freshman Cassie Seten was first to attempt a penalty kick for the Flashes and put the team up 1-0. After a missed attempt by Kent State, the Cardinals tied the score.

Freshman Caitlin Hester then converted to push the Flashes to the 3-1 final.

Junior Alicia Fernandez came up with nine saves in the contest to keep Ball State scoreless. 

The Flashes were slightly out shot, 17-16, and out corner kicked 10-1.

That streak included two crucial wins against Ohio and Akron at home two weeks ago and a tie against Buffalo Friday.   

The Flashes head to the home of the 2004 tournament and 2005 regular season champions Falcons to face Central Michigan, who were the victors in the quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 Western Michigan.
