Flashes finish in eighth at General Hackler

Kent State University’s men’s golf team had a tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday, March 9th through Tuesday, March 10th. Kent State finished 8th in the two-day tournament and brought five of its players out to the course.

The team brought out two juniors: Josh Gilkison and Will Kurtz.  Kent State also brought with them freshman Cade Breitenstine, sophomore Julien Paltrinieri and senior Chris Doody. Kent finished lower than expected in this tournament, but the season is still early.

Kent State has a chance to improve its skills and make its way up the rankings. The Flashes finished with a score of 874 (+10). They ended the final round of the tournament 298 (+10).

Kurtz tied for 14th place after the two-day tournament. Breitenstine tied for 18th place, Gilkison tied for 36th place, Paltrinieri tied for 48th place, and Doody finished in 80th place.

Breitenstine got made a double eagle on the eighth hole of the course.  The double eagle was made on the first day of the tournament, Monday, March 9th.

Kent State had a fairly successful fall season and are hoping to be able to end the spring season in a good position. As coach Jon Mills said in an interview over the phone, the team has small things to work on and improve during this season, and as the season continues he thinks that the Flashes will improve scores, short game and other small issues he noticed in his players’ game.  By fixing any issues such as short game and all-around focus, Kent State will be able to improve.

Kent State men’s golf team has its next tournament March 22 through March 24.
