Softball heads to Louisville Slugger Classic in Florida
The Kent State softball team will continue its road trip to the south when it travels to Tampa, Fla., today.
The Flashes will compete in the Louisville Slugger Classic at South Florida. They are coming off a pair of losses in the first series of the season at Kentucky last weekend.
Action begins at 4:30 p.m. today when Kent State takes on Siena. The Flashes will face Indiana at 6:30 p.m.
The Flashes will play two more teams Saturday and one Sunday, beginning with South Florida at 1 p.m. Their next two opponents will be determined by win/loss records for the previous three games.
The squad is led by junior pitcher Brittney Robinson, who posted 16 strikeouts and gave up only four earned runs on 10 hits in her 11.2 innings last weekend.
The Flashes’ offense is led by sophomore Jamie Fitzpatrick and senior Ashley Fairhurst. Fitzpatrick hit a three-run homer and a double against Kentucky. Fairhurst leads the squad with a .429 batting average overall, hitting .500 last weekend.
