Softball hosts Eastern Michigan today, series with Central scheduled for Saturday
Mid-American Conference West and East Division Players of the Week will match up today as Kent State faces Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
Kent State (11-17, 1-2 MAC) will be showcasing sophomore shortstop Jessica Toocheck, who was named MAC East Division Player of the Week after recording a .500 batting average, double, home run and four RBI in five games.
Kent State coach Karen Linder said her team matches up well with Eastern Michigan, despite a lower conference record.
“Offensively, we might be a little bit better,” Linder said. “I anticipate that it will be a tough game because if Eastern Michigan gets behind, they always come back.”
The Flashes are ranked fourth in the MAC East. A victory against MAC West leader Eastern Michigan could help bolster Kent State in early conference play, Linder said, but it is still too early to mark this as a pivotal game.
Linder said she is more concerned about the weather, as rain in the forecast could cancel the game. Wednesday’s doubleheader against Robert Morris was canceled.
Kent State went 1-1 in a doubleheader at Pittsbrugh Tuesday. The Flashes broke out offensively in their first game, winning 12-2, but went scoreless in the second game with four hits.
The Flashes also have a two-game series this weekend against Central Michigan beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
