Kent State baseball’s game in Morgantown, West Virginia was a rocky one against the Mountaineers. 

West Virginia scored all of its runs in the first three innings and threw a no-hitter on Kent State with a final score of 8-0. 

After the second inning, the Mountaineers possessed a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the game’s first two innings respectively. 

In the third inning, West Virginia was able to put six runs on the board and knock out Kent State’s starting pitcher, Zach Schultz, who allowed five earned runs and fell to 0-2 on the season.

Redshirt sophomore reliever Peyton Deats came in to replace Schultz. The lefty threw two and two thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits but striking out three batters.

Freshman Richie Dell continued a very solid first season for the Flashes, allowing just one hit in his two innings pitched. Dell struck out the final five batters he faced.

It was a brutal night for Kent State’s offense as the Flashes were unable to put up a hit. Freshman Josh Mrozek was able to get on base after he was hit by a pitch.

The loss set the Flashes back to 6-5 on the season. They are back in action for a weekend series against Liberty University. First pitch from Lynchburg, Virginia is scheduled for 4:00 p.m on Friday.
