Flashes take down the Akron Zips 37-15
The Golden Flashes finished the game more than 20 points ahead of rival University of Akron to maintain its No. 1 standing in the MAC East.

The Kent State football team used a 461 yard offensive explosion to propel it to a 37-15 upset over Akron Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Julian Edelman led the Flashes with 17 completions on 21 attempts for 305 yards and one touchdown. He added 69 yards rushing on 24 carries and one rushing touchdown. The team finished with 156 yards rushing.
Redshirt freshman Tony Howard contributed 62 yards rushing on 25 carries and two touchdowns to the effort.
The Kent State defense held Akron to 334 total yards. They also put points on the board when senior defensive lineman Daniel Muir sacked Akron quarterback Luke Getsy in the endzone for a safety and the first score for Kent State.
Getsy had 19 completions on 38 attempts for 261 yards. Sophomore running back Dennis Kennedy led Akron in rushing with 91 yards on 16 carries. Akron freshman wide receiver David Harvey had 4 catches, 98 yards and one touchdown.
The win leaves the Flashes atop the Mid-American Conference East standings with an undefeated conference record.
