Volleyball team drops two

Kent State’s volleyball team lost its two matches over the weekend, 1-3 against Miami Friday and 0-3 against Bowling Green Saturday.

In Friday’s match, Kent State (13-9, 6-4 Mid-American Conference) won the first game 32-30 after falling behind Miami (11-12, 7-3 MAC) early 9-1. The Flashes stormed back to get within two points, 17-15, with help from junior libero Laura Jensen who had four consecutive serving aces.

The Flashes trailed the entire second game and lost 30-28. The third and fourth games both were tight matches with Kent State losing 32-30 and 30-26.

Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Feutz recorded a double-double for Kent State, with 11 kills and 10 digs and freshman setter Katie Veatch had 60 or more assists for the fifth time this season.

Saturday afternoon, Bowling Green built a huge 23-15 lead. The Flashes got within seven points, but couldn’t overcome the Falcons’ lead as they scored the final five points for a 30-18 victory.

The Flashes stayed close in games two and three, but Bowling Green (21-2, 10-0 MAC) was able to take control and completed the sweep with scores 30-21 and 30-23. Jensen added to her record-breaking single season digs record total with 15.

These losses put Kent State’s record at 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the Mid-American Conference.

The Flashes return home to play Ohio on Friday at 7 p.m.
