Health Department hasn’t been able to pass a levy since 1955

The Portage County Health Department is hoping voters will pass its additional levy this election for the first time since 1955.

Connie Leedom, executive secretary and director of the Administrative Division of the health department, said the five-year, 0.4-mill levy is expected to raise $1.22 million.

The levy, Issue 20, would cost owners of a $200,000 house $2.04 a month. The levy would not apply to the cities of Kent or Ravenna because they have their own health departments.
