Kent State has been criticized in recent years for its lack of famous performers, but will the rapper Chingy be the beacon that guides our entertainment into the future?

Chingy will perform after Saturday’s homecoming game at 8:30 p.m. in the M.A.C Center. Tickets are available through ticket master and cost $5 for students and $20 for non-students.

He is best known for his hits “Right Thurr” and “Holidae Inn” from his 2003 album, Jackpot. His second album declined in popularity, but recently he had a top 20 hit with “Pullin’ Me Back.””This is the biggest thing we’ve brought since Bone Thugs(-N-Harmony),” said Mike Hammond, concert chair for the All Campus Programming Board, which hosts the concert. “My goal for my job was to bring a big name to campus, to satisfy the student body.”

ACPB has been recently criticized for not bringing enough celebrities to Kent State, but President Shana Scott said that most students are not aware of what ACPB is or that it also hosts BlastOff! and FlashFest each year.

Scott wants bring back camaraderie between students and student groups, and thinks the Chingy concert will be the way to do it.
