Hangin’ with Howie’s

What Hungry Howie’s is really like during its busiest time — 1 to 3 a.m. on a Sunday

Are you Hungry Howie’s?” Shauna Riehl, sophomore hospitality management major asked at 3 a.m. as she answered the door.

“I am Hungry Howie’s,” said Matt Potisuk, the pizza delivery man.

It was a typical Saturday night in a college town, and pizza was, as always, the staple food.

“Being a pizza delivery driver is definitely fun,” Potisuk said. “It’s absolutely the easiest job in the world, it must be.”

He said he enjoys his job, but he knows that caution is needed, especially on late-night runs.

“Someone tried to rob one of our drivers at knife point one time,” Potisuk said. “We’ve also had a lot of car toppers stolen. I have no idea what they do with them, honestly.”

Despite these occasional situations, Potisuk said he enjoys catering to the late-night crowd — and the late-night college crowd loves pizza.

Eric Rudowicz, senior marketing major, said he agrees.

“It’s definitely a college thing,” Rudowicz said. “I work at the Hungry Howie’s in Stow, and we’re not usually open past 11 p.m. You’re not going to find people in Stow ordering at 4 a.m.”

Rudowicz said late-night pizza is such a college thing because students are up late studying or partying.

Freshman pre-med major Alex Trouten said he orders pizza late at night at least three times a week.” Everyone gets really hungry, I’d say, later on,” he said.

Trouten said he would still choose pizza if other places were also open late at night.

“Pizza is easy, and it can feed a lot of people,” Trouten said.

Many other students seem to agree with Trouten that pizza is a necessity in the college student’s diet.

“You gotta have pizza at least four times a week,” senior geology major Steve Maliszeski said.

Colin Gregg, sophomore marketing major, said he orders pizza at least once every two weeks.

“This is my late night munch,” he said as he picked up his pie from Hungry Howie’s. “My roommates order at least once a week.”

Joe Faulhaber, sophomore marketing major, said the pizzas eaten at his house are in the triple digits.

“Between this house, we’ve ordered 120 times in the past year,” he said. “We tallied it up last week and it was 120. And you can take that to the bank because it’s true!”
