Home opener canceled for women’s basketball
The Kent State women’s basketball team will have to wait until next weekend to start its season.
Originally, Kent State was to play South Dakota State at the M.A.C. Center on Saturday.
However, according to Kent State’s athletic communications department, South Dakota State’s plane trip from Chicago to Cleveland was canceled due to weather conditions.
The game was called off early Saturday morning. As of now it is unknown when the two teams will reschedule the game.
Because South Dakota State had to travel to Middle Tennessee State for a game on Monday and Kent State already had a volleyball game scheduled at the M.A.C. Center for 7 p.m., making up the game Saturday night was not an option.
The season will now start Nov. 17 when the Flashes play Robert Morris University in Huntington, W.Va. The game will be part of the Fifth Third/Marshall University Classic.
Depending on the outcome of the game, Kent State will play either host Marshall or Southern University to end the tournament.
Kent State will then take part in the La Quinta Inn & Suites Thanksgiving Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend before returning for its first home game of the year on Nov. 30 against St. Francis.
