Best of Kent: Best gluten-free dining
GRAZERS
GRAZERS is one of the few locations that are health-oriented downtown, and offers an entire gluten-free menu, minus the wraps.
In addition to gluten-free, their facilities both on campus and downtown, are 100 percent peanut-free.
“If somebody comes in and says ‘I’m celiac’ or ‘I have a gluten allergy,’ we go into a different mode,” Lasher said. “We have different backups [and we] have separate everything [for gluten-free accommodations].”
Lasher said she thinks that GRAZERS continuously wins this award because the people with these health issues keep coming back and eating there, so the customers trust them.
Taco Tonto’s
Taco Tonto’s, located at 123 Franklin Ave., was voted second place for best gluten-free dining option. Owner Emily Yohn said it was cool to win the award, and the menus created in house are for the benefits of the customers.
There is no set menu, as customers can personalize their order, and the gluten-free options range from the corn tortilla shells to the nachos. They also offer out-of-ordinary specialties such as CBD sparkling water.
Yohn said the customer feedback is “generally pretty good” and often times they just “roll with it.”
Wild Goat’s Fresh and Funky Dining
Wild Goat’s Fresh and Funky Dining was awarded third place for “Best gluten-free dining.” General Manager Bryant Rogers said they’re glad the community is noticing their efforts.
Besides the pretzel roll, they do not currently have gluten-free bread options, but are looking forward to it in the future. Their more popular menu items include the mid-day sandwich, which is gluten-free, and the avocado benedict, which is not gluten-free, but can be ordered to become gluten-free.
“I’m glad that customers and the community are recognizing that we’re trying to make our menu more inclusive and diverse for everybody,” Rogers said. “It seems to be a direct reaction to that so it makes me proud.”
