Women looking for another MAC Title

The Kent State women’s golf team will attempt to win its ninth consecutive Mid-American championship this weekend.

“We just came off a good tournament,” coach Mike Morrow said. “We’re planning on peaking at the right time .”

Last weekend, the Flashes finished third at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, best of the five MAC teams in the tournament.

“Our schedule is much more nationally oriented,” Morrow said. “We did look at the scoreboard, though, from time-to-time.”

Winning the eight championships gives the players a lot of confidence this weekend, Morrow said.

“Success breeds success,” he said. “We have juniors and seniors who have already won two or three titles, that helps a lot.”

The Flashes won the last seven playing at Walden Ponds Golf Club in Hamilton. This year the team will tee off at Longaberger Golf Course in Nashport.

“This is our first time playing this course,” Morrow said. “It’s a difficult course; we get one practice round before the tournament.”

But it shouldn’t be an issue if the Flashes play well.

“If we play our game, and if we do what we are capable of, our results are favorable,” he said.
