The Kent State softball team will take a short break from Mid-American Conference play when the Pittsburgh Panthers visit for a doubleheader this afternoon.

The Flashes (26-15, 10-2 MAC) are coming off a sweep of a doubleheader Sunday at Buffalo. The Flashes, currently ranked first in the MAC, are looking for the first MAC softball regular-season championship in Kent State history.

Pittsburgh (22-31, 8-11 Big East) will try to put a stop to the Flashes’ five-game winning streak. The Panthers have won their past four games, outscoring opponents 39-5.

These two games will mark the last home games for four Kent State seniors: pitcher/outfielder Brittney Robinson, second baseman Jessica Kramb, catcher Lauren Ellis and third baseman Megan Verde.

Junior first baseman Jamie Fitzpatrick will look to break her Kent State single-season home run record. Her 12 homers this season have tied the mark she set last season.

Also, freshman pitcher Kylie Reynolds will look to continue her success from Sunday. She pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13 batters in five innings, as the Flashes routed Buffalo, 10-0.

The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Diamond at Dix.

After tomorrow’s games, the Flashes will look to continue their MAC success with their last four conference games this weekend. The team plays a doubleheader at Ball State on Friday afternoon and single games at Miami University on Saturday and Sunday.
