Students can get a sample of French films starting today during the Tournées Film Festival showings.

The Libraries and Media Services department will host a series of French films free to students in the Kiva.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to present films that may not be well known,” said Daniel Boomhower, performing arts librarian and head of the music library. “There is the language issue, but they’re in subtitles, and they’re extremely good films.”

The first film, Look At Me, directed by AgnŠs Jaoui, plays at 7:30 p.m. today. The movie tells the story of Lolita, an overweight girl with an amazing singing voice, as she emotionally struggles with her weight.

The second film, Le Petit Lieutenant, directed by Xavier Beauvois, follows Antoine, a rookie policeman who volunteers for the Parisian homicide squad. The film will be shown Friday at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Games of Love and Chance, directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, follows a group of poor and immigrant children in France and will be shown at 2:30 p.m.

Hidden, directed by Michael Haneke, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. It shows the lives of Georges and Anne, a couple living a perfect, secure married life. But their world is shaken when they discover a videotape of their house being filmed by a hidden camera.

The final film, Days of Glory, directed by Rachid Bouchareb, tells the forgotten story of allies in the liberation of Italy in 1945. It will be shown Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
