KIC to sponsor Kreepy Kent 5K Race

Masquerading students won’t be the only people crowding Kent State’s campus on Halloween weekend.

They’ll be accompanied by runners participating in the first ever Kreepy Kent 5K Race, beginning at 9 a.m. on Oct. 27. A one-mile Fun Run will also start at 9:45 a.m. that day.

All proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by Kent Interhall Council, will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“So many people think that students are out partying on Halloween,” KIC President Traci Sanders said. “This gives students the opportunity to do something truly beneficial.”

The route weaves through grass and wooded areas on campus. Runners will also pass historic landmarks such as the May 4 Memorial and Liquid Crystal Institute.

“Residents can walk out their door and participate in something beneficial to a charity,” Sanders said, adding that the difference between Kreepy Kent 5K and other charity events is that students can get physically involved.

“It’s not just donating cans for a food drive,” she said.

Anyone who wants to participate in the race can fill out an entry form online or in the KIC office in the Tri-Towers Rotunda. The cost is $10 prior to Wednesday. Registration on race day is $15.

The registration fee covers the runner’s donation, Kreepy Kent 5K T-shirt, race bib and race day refreshments.
