Professor’s Pub viewing party seeks to draw attention to presidential debates
All-Campus Programming Board and Black Squirrel Politics, a political blog written by Kent State students, are sponsoring debate-watching parties at Professor’s Pub on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The bar, located at 110 E. Main St., will be showing both parties’ last presidential debates before Super Tuesday, with the Republican debate airing Wednesday and the Democratic debate airing Thursday. The events will begin at 8 p.m., with the debates starting at 9.
“We just want students to be involved in the process,” said Erik Urycki, senior public relations major and a student in the political journalism class that produces the blog. “We want people to come down and watch just like they’d watch a basketball game.”
Hungry Howie’s will provide free pizza. Professor’s Pub will allow underage individuals into the bar while the debate is airing.
Urycki said he hopes the event raises the profile of the blog, blacksquirrelpolitics.wordpress.com, which features Kent State students’ opinions of the presidential election.
“We’re trying to drum up support for the blog,” Urycki said. “We’re trying to get students involved in politics.”
