Grant Hooper was sitting on his couch at about midnight Thursday when three men came in the front door of his University Drive house. One was carrying a shotgun, and another had a baseball bat, he said.

Hooper, junior business major, said two of the men went upstairs while the one with the gun kept Hooper and two of his housemates in the kitchen.

“They were upstairs. I didn’t even see what they were doing,” he said. “The other guy had us in the kitchen facing the cabinet on our knees.”

The men went through their things and took two Xbox 360s and a couple hundred dollars, he said.

The police incident report listed a handgun, cash and a cell phone as stolen from the house at 206 University Drive. The Xboxes were not included in the report.

No injuries were reported, according to a Kent State Police advisory FlashLine release.

Hooper said that he and his housemates didn’t know the men, who weren’t wearing masks. He said he thought the robbery was random and that the men were probably not from Kent.

Lt. Jayme Cole of Kent police said he could not comment on the specifics of the case because it is under investigation, but said this type of robbery is not a common occurrence in Kent.

The Kent police shared the information with Kent State police for the FlashLine release.

Lt. William Buckbee of Kent State police recommended that students keep their windows and doors locked to avoid a situation like this.

“My general impression of this particular incident is I’d be surprised if it recurs,” Buckbee said.

Hooper said he didn’t usually lock the door when he’s at home but will now.

“They just walked right in,” he said.

They’ve replaced the locks because the burglars also took his keys, Hooper said.

He said he wasn’t traumatized by the incident.

“It’s pretty much surreal,” he said. “It just happened so fast. We just got robbed. We’re fine. Not a big deal.”

The three suspects were described in the FlashLine advisory as: a white male, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 190 to 210 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie; a white male, 6 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 200 to 230 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie; a black male, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 170 to 190 pounds with corn-row hair with blond tips.

A dispatcher with the Kent police department said yesterday that there were no updates in the case.
