Women’s Resource Center to sponsor events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and various organizations will be visiting the Student Center to educate students about sexual assault.

The Women’s Resource Center is sponsoring the awareness month on campus, and representatives from organizations including Kent State Police, University Health Services and Safer Futures, a non-profit organization that works with people to create safe and healthy communities, will be on the second floor of the Student Center to distribute literature regarding sexual assault and information about what they are doing about sexual assault.

Representatives will be available to answer any questions on their assigned days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Mitzi Hutchins, a graduate assistant working with the Women’s Resource Center.

Hutchins also said the issue of sexual assault is quite serious.

“Obtaining information and increasing awareness can significantly impact an individual’s level of empowerment,” she said.

Representatives from Safer Futures will be available today, employees at the Women’s Resource Center will answer questions April 15 and 22, and the Kent State Police and University Health Services will be distributing information and speaking with students April 28 and 30 and May 1.
