Kent State College Democrats honored as best
Kent State’s College Democrats were named the College Chapter of the Year by the Ohio Young Democratic Convention last Saturday.
Other chapters in the running included Ohio State, Ohio University and the University of Akron.
The College Democrats have increased membership from 5 to 7 members last year to more than 60 members this year. The group also brought both Clinton and Obama campaign affiliates to campus over the course of the semester and campaigned for local candidates.
They also created respective Students for Barack Obama and Students for Hillary Clinton groups that are headed by students, not by the candidates’ campaigns themselves.
“It’s a great honor to receive the award,” College Democrats President Patrick Burke said. “Especially with how active the chapter has been with all of the campaigning and hard work everybody’s done. It feels great to increase membership and turn the chapter into something that’s respected on campus.”
