Sigma Chi’s pledge class will hold Field Day from 3 to 6 p.m. today in the commons field behind Stopher Hall.

The event will feature games and contests including a cornhole tournament, water balloon toss and hula hoop contest. Field Day will also offer a half-court basketball shot and a football-throwing contest, in which winners will get monetary prizes of $3 to $5.

All contests are pay-to-play, with prices ranging from $1 per toss for the half-court and football games to $10 per team for the cornhole tournament.

Kevin Grace, the Sigma Chi Pledge Class Philanthropy Chair, said the proceeds from Field Day will be donated to the Dear Jack Foundation. Grace said the foundation was established by Andrew McMahon, the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin, to support medical research of leukemia. McMahon survived his own battle with cancer, and Grace said he has always wanted to donate to this foundation.

“Andrew McMahon inspired us to do the right things in life and to enjoy it, and I believe Sigma Chi wants to inspire others to become better men,” Grace said.

The event is being put on by the new Sigma Chi pledge class as its first philanthropy, but Grace said prizes have been donated by popular local businesses including GNC and Pulp.

Field Day has also gained attention from the Dear Jack Foundation. Grace said the foundation requested photos from Kent State Field Day to put on its Web site and on the Jack’s Mannequin Buzznet page.
